What it's all about
This is it. A little bit of everything. Sports, politics, computers, idiocy, humor, music, and various assorted ramblings, all from the mind of a teenager who can't even (legally) drive yet.
So anyway, I had an interesting discussion today with the 'rents about the media and its role in politics this evening. All I did was mention that if you could control every media outlet, then you control everyone who is exposed to it. This would effectively let you rule the world, which is very stylish in some circles. Of course, this set my dad off on one of his speeches about how the republicans were trying to do just that and take over the world. My mom was the voice of reason and fairness to both sides, my dad was, as usual, overinformed and used more statistics than a basketball scorekeeper. He argued that FOX News had a Republican agenda, and they put a pre-devised spin on everything they reported. At the same time, other right wingers bashed the "liberal" media (CNN, CBS) for being off-center. This made CNN defensive, as they aimed to maintain journalistic integrity. So, in the intrest of not appearing too biased, they gave extra props to the right. So this leaves us with one totally and unabashedly republican-controlled conservative outlet, while the other slightly left leaning outlets try to put a conservative spin on things to be fair. Now we have Uber conservative and slightly liberal but scared into being conservative. This, said my dad, is the problem.
wow. that was long. I hope someone reads it.

Why would having a liberal and a conservative news station be a bad thing? If anything it just promotes competition and makes both stations try harder to get the viewers to switch over to their channel. As long as their is competition there will always be room for dicussion and debate.

The problem is not that there is a liberal and conservative news station. The problem is the conservatives have scared the liberals into not being ALL liberal and left-biased. The right has its unabashedly right and only right news station, but the left doesn't have the same thing. My dad was lamenting this fact. I don't see it as too much of a problem, because I would rather not be influenced by ultra-liberal ideas. But if you already are a hardcore blue state democrat, like my dad is, he wants to get his news from people who think like him. But he says there is not a station which is all-left. I 'm sorry if I wasn't clear the first time. And by the way, thank you for being the first ever visitor to my blog!
